Can the ball hit the wall in padel?
B · Beginner · Serving and play · 5 of 6Checked 15 October 2026
After the ball bounces once on your side it may hit the walls and fence any number of times before you return it. Your return may go off your own glass first, but must bounce on the opponents' side before touching their walls. A ball may also be volleyed.
How it works
- After a bounce: walls in play.
- Before you return: no second bounce.
- Own glass: may be used.
- Own fence: not allowed.
- Opponents' walls: only after a bounce.
- Volley: allowed.
- Corner bounce: good.
- Ball stuck in fence: point to hitter.
The glossary has the correct return, the wall shot, the double bounce, the volley, the ball in play and the rally.

Why the rule exists
Bouncing first on the opponents' side keeps the walls a defence tool, not a weapon.
