Our principles
Start from nothing
Every sport opens with how a match works, then the rules you need first. No question is too basic, and you never have to know a word to look it up.
The answer first
A rule page begins with the answer (out or not out, yes or no) and when it applies. How it works and the unusual cases come after.
The rule book decides
Rules come from each sport's own rule book, and results from the organisers' records. Where a rule differs between competitions, we show where and how. A plain version never changes what the rule says; where a page does not cover a case, it says so.
Clear words, with the exact term beside them
We write the way people talk about a match, and give the sport's own term next to it, so you understand the commentary and can find the official text.
Every sport, every athlete
Women's sport and para sport are covered alongside men's, not after it. Smaller sports get the same care as the biggest ones.
Neutral
The pages explain the rule, never a particular decision, and take no side between teams or players. Results are counted the same way for every country. Where athletes competed under a neutral name, we show the country they came from, the name they were officially listed under and the reason.
Honest about what we know
When something is wrong, we correct it, and you can tell us throughContact.
No betting, no gossip
No betting tips, odds, fantasy sport or gossip. SportsMaze is for understanding sport.
