Cycling
Cycling has five Olympic disciplines. On the road, riders race from a mass start, alone against the clock in time trials or over several days in stage races. Track racing is held on a banked oval, in sprint events and endurance events. Mountain bike racing is off-road, in cross-country and downhill formats. In BMX racing up to eight riders race one lap of a dirt track with jumps from a start gate, and BMX freestyle is judged, not raced, on a routine of tricks.
