Scoring and winning

  1. How does scoring work in volleyball?Every rally ends with a point.
  2. How many points to win a set in volleyball, and how many sets in a match?A set is won by the first team to 25 points with a lead of at least 2.

Rotation and serving

  1. How does rotation work in volleyball?Each time a team wins the serve back from its opponents, its six players move one place clockwise and the player arriving at back-right serves.
  2. What are the rules for serving in volleyball?The serve is hit by the back-right player from behind the end line, with one hand or arm, after tossing or releasing the ball.

Playing the ball and the net

  1. How many touches does a team get in volleyball?A team has at most three hits to send the ball back over the net, and no player may hit it twice in a row.
  2. Is the line in or out in volleyball?The line is in.

Attacks, blocks and the libero

  1. What are the rules for blocking in volleyball?A block is a player at the net reaching above it to stop the ball coming from the opponents.
  2. What is a libero in volleyball?The libero is a defensive specialist who wears a contrasting shirt and plays only in the back row.
