The competition

Fencing

  2. What counts as a valid hit in pentathlon fencing?A hit made with the point of the épée on any part of the opponent, clothing and equipment included.

Obstacle and swimming

  1. What happens if a pentathlete falls off an obstacle?The judge raises a yellow flag and calls "Fail".

The laser run

  1. How far do pentathletes run, and how is the finish judged?Seniors run 3,000 metres in five legs of 600 metres, one after each shooting series.
  2. What are the penalties in the pentathlon laser run?Small faults cost 10 seconds each, and the athlete serves them standing still: at the start gate, at their shooting station or in a marked stop area on the last lap.
