How a match works, in a minute

How yogasana is judged

  1. Yogasana is a judged sport, like gymnastics. Athletes perform yoga postures, asanas, and judges mark how well each one is done, weighted by how hard it is.
  2. Before performing, an athlete hands in a sheet listing the asanas in order. The order cannot then be changed.
  3. In the traditional event each asana is marked out of 10, for the posture, its stability and grace, and holding it for the required time. The mark is multiplied by the asana's difficulty value.
  4. The highest and lowest judges' marks are dropped. The highest total wins.

Other events

In the artistic and rhythmic events athletes perform ten asanas to music, alone or in pairs, in 150 to 180 seconds.
