How a match works, in a minute
How a sanda bout works
- Sanda, the fighting form of wushu, allows punches, kicks and throws. It is fought on a raised square platform, the leitai, with no ropes.
- A punch to the head or body, or a kick to the thigh, scores one point. A kick to the head or body scores two.
- Putting the opponent on the floor while staying on your feet scores two, and so does the opponent falling off the platform.
- Judges score each round separately, and the first fighter to win two rounds wins the bout.
How long
Three rounds of two minutes, with a minute's rest. If one fighter wins the first two rounds, the third is not fought.
