How to qualify in Wushu
Who can compete at the World Wushu Championships
Checked 20 October 2026Valid for: the World Wushu Championships, under the IWUF's Regulations, 17th World Wushu Championships (Brasilia, 31 August to 8 September 2025; version 3, 31 May 2025). The regulations for the next edition (the championships are held every two years, so 2027) are not published yet. Not covered: the World Kungfu Championships and World Taijiquan Championships (separate events); judging.
There is no qualifying competition for the World Wushu Championships. Any national federation that is a paid-up member of the International Wushu Federation (IWUF) can send one team, and chooses its own athletes, within limits:
| Taolu (routines) | Sanda (combat) | |
|---|---|---|
| Athletes per country | up to 8 | up to 8 (at most 5 men and 3 women) |
| Per event | any number of routines, within each athlete's limit; one men's and one women's duilian team | one athlete per weight category |
| Per athlete | up to 4 events: one bare-hand, one short weapon, one long weapon, one duilian | one weight category |
| Age | 12 and over | 18 to 40 |
So for an Indian athlete, the question is selection by the Wushu Association of India, not a qualifying event.
