The route and the score

  1. How is a lead qualification round ranked across two routes? Each climber is ranked on each of the two routes.

Rules for every climber

  1. Why are climbers kept in isolation before they climb?Because working out how to climb the route is part of the test.
  2. What happens if a hold breaks or the rope goes tight during a climb? It may be ruled a technical incident: a fault that helped or hindered the climber and was not their own doing.
  3. What do yellow and red cards mean in climbing, and how is a result appealed?A yellow card is a caution for a breach that does not seriously affect fairness.
