General terms

Sitting volleyball

Volleyball played by two teams of six players on a court of 10 m by 6 m under a low net. A player must keep some part of the body between the buttocks and the shoulders on the floor while playing the ball. It keeps volleyball's rally scoring, three team hits and clockwise rotation.

Set and match (sitting volleyball)

A set is won by the first team to 25 points with a lead of two, played on from 24-24 until the lead is two. The match goes to the team that wins three sets. At two sets all, a deciding fifth set is played to 15 points, also with a lead of two.

Court and equipment

Playing court (sitting volleyball)

A rectangle of 10 m by 6 m, split by the centre line into two courts of 6 m by 5 m. All lines are 5 cm wide and are drawn inside the court dimensions.

Net height

The top of the net is 1.15 m for men and 1.05 m for women, measured from the centre of the court. The height over the two side lines must be the same and no more than 2 cm above the official height.

Front zone (sitting volleyball)

The area on each court between the axis of the centre line and the rear edge of the attack line. It is counted as continuing beyond the side lines to the end of the free zone.

Positions

Player positions (sitting volleyball)

Along the net the front-row players are in positions 4 (front-left), 3 (front-centre) and 2 (front-right); behind them are 5 (back-left), 6 (back-centre) and 1 (back-right). Each back-row player must be further from the centre line than the front-row player in front, and each row must keep its left-to-right order.

Service

Service (sitting volleyball)

The back-right player puts the ball in play from the service zone, hitting it with one hand or any part of the arm after tossing or releasing it. Only one toss or release is allowed, and dribbling or moving the ball in the hands is permitted. The server must hit within 8 seconds of the 1st referee's whistle, and a service before the whistle is cancelled and repeated.

Attack and block

Block (sitting volleyball)

Only front-row players may complete a block, and at the contact a part of the body must be higher than the top of the net. Blockers may reach beyond the net but may not touch the ball there before the opponent's attack hit. A block contact is not a team hit, and any player, including the blocker, may play the first hit after it. A completed block by a back-row player and any block attempt by a Libero are faults.
