How the sitting volleyball world ranking works
Sitting volleyball ranks countries. Each country gets points for its final place at the big events, and the ranking adds up its points from the latest edition of each kind of event:
| Event | Points for the winner |
|---|---|
| World Championship | 1,000 |
| World Cup | 1,000 |
| Zonal championship (for example Asia-Oceania) | 500 |
| Other World ParaVolley events | 100 |
Each place below the winner earns 90% of the place above: 1,000, 900, 810, 729 and so on.
The ranking keeps the last World Championship, World Cup and Paralympic Games and the last two zonal championships. When a new edition is played, its points replace the old one's.
The one thing to remember: in sitting volleyball, every place down costs a tenth of your points, and only the latest edition of each event counts.
The new and the old tables
World ParaVolley changed its points in 2025. Events from 2025 on use the new table; earlier events still on the list use the old one:
| Event | Old system (winner) | New system (winner) |
|---|---|---|
| Paralympic Games | 2,000 | not in the new table |
| World Championship | 1,500 | 1,000 |
| World Cup | 1,000 | 1,000 |
| Final Paralympic qualifier | 863 to the best team that did not qualify | not in the new table |
| Zonal championship | 500 | 500 |
| Other sanctioned events | 100 |
In both, each place gets 90% of the place above (rounded) down to 30th; the same rule carries on below 30th. In the old table, teams at the final Paralympic qualifier that did not qualify score as if the first of them had finished ninth at the Games.
Which events were on the list in August 2026
The 2026 World Championship, the 2025 World Cup and the 2025 zonal championships (new system); the 2024 Paralympic Games and their final qualifier, and the 2023 zonal championships (old system).
For the Paralympic Games and World Championships, the pools of the qualified teams are drawn from the ranking over the relevant four-year cycle.
India in August 2026
India's men were 27th with 1,311 points: 316 + 630 + 365. These match a 12th place at the 2025 World Cup (316), a 5th place at the 2024 Paralympic qualifier (630, old table) and a 4th place at a zonal championship (365, old table). India's women were 24th with 242 points, which matches an 8th place at a zonal championship.
Where the document disagrees with itself
- In the new table, the World Championship and World Cup both start at 1,000 and both fall by 90%, yet from 5th place they differ by one or more points (656 and 657 for 5th, 43 and 52 for 30th). The World Championship column seems to round each step; the World Cup column does not.
- The women's list of 18 August 2026 puts India in zone "PVE" (Europe), while the men's list has it in "PVAO" (Asia-Oceania). Probably a slip in the women's list.
