What are the penalties in pencak silat jurus?

A · Advanced · Jurus · 2 of 2
Checked 14 October 2026

Tunggal, ganda and regu last 3 minutes, with 5 seconds' tolerance for juniors and seniors and 10 for younger groups. Holding any movement over 5 seconds costs 0.50. A weapon breaking, a routine left unfinished or out of order, wrong attire or a large overrun means disqualification and a score of 0.00. Coaches may not call instructions.

How it works

  • Time: 3 minutes; tunggal bebas 1 to 3 minutes.
  • Tolerance: 5 seconds for juniors and seniors; 10 for pre-teens and pre-juniors.
  • Held movement: over 5 seconds costs 0.50.
  • Out of the area: one foot fully over the line.
  • Synopsis: ganda and tunggal bebas end on the movement it states.
  • Disqualification: broken or loose weapon, unfinished or out-of-order routine, wrong attire.
  • Score: 0.00 for a disqualification.
  • Both out: decided by jurus reached, penalties, time, then a coin toss.

The glossary has the performance time, the jurus penalties, the synopsis form, the jurus disqualification, the sound in jurus and the attire (jurus).

Tricky cases

A ganda pair do not finish on the movement in their synopsis. What happens?

The clock is not stopped, and runs on to the disqualification limit.

How much overrun disqualifies?

The rules are not consistent: the disqualification list says over 10 seconds for juniors and seniors (15 for younger groups), but the ganda and regu sections say any overrun past the tolerance.

Can spectators cheer during jurus?

Yes. Performers may call out too, but coaches may not give voice commands.

A male pesilat wears make-up. Is that allowed?

No. Women may wear only powder and lipstick.

Why the rule exists

Strict timing makes routines comparable. Disqualifying incomplete or out-of-order routines protects the standard forms the events are built on.
