When is the weigh-in in para powerlifting?
A · Advanced · Athletes and categories · 2 of 4At the weigh-in, held privately with officials of the athlete's gender, the athlete must be within the category and confirms the opening weight and rack height. Missing the weight, the weigh-in or identification means disqualification. WPPO may hold a random weigh-in on the day. Lot numbers follow the world ranking. With eleven or more athletes, groups are formed by first attempt.
How it works
- Weigh-in: private, same-gender officials.
- Clothing: sport underclothing.
- Confirmed: opening weight and rack height.
- Missing it: disqualification.
- Random weigh-in: on event day; too heavy disqualifies.
- Lot numbers: world rank 1 gets lot 1.
- Groups: eleven or more athletes, at least five a group.
- Group order: lightest first attempts first.
The glossary has the weigh-in (para powerlifting), the random weigh-in, the lot number, the groups (para powerlifting), the rack height and the opening attempt.
Tricky cases
An athlete is 200 g over at the end of the weigh-in. Result?
Disqualified from the event.
Can the rack height change later?
Yes, through the marshall, at any time.
Ten athletes in a category. Groups?
No. Groups start at eleven.
Two athletes open at the same weight. Who lifts first?
The higher lot number.
Why the rule exists
Weighing in close to the event keeps categories honest. Grouping by first attempt keeps similar lifters together.
