How a match works, in a minute
How para powerlifting works
- Para powerlifting is a bench press for athletes with a lower-limb or hip impairment, in bodyweight categories.
- Lying flat, the athlete lowers the bar to the chest, holds it still, then presses it up to locked arms.
- Each athlete has three attempts, one in each round. After a good lift the next must be at least 1 kg heavier.
- Three referees judge each lift: two or three white lights make it good, two or three red a no lift. The heaviest good lift wins.
How long
An athlete must start each attempt within two minutes of being called.
