How a match works, in a minute
How a para archery match works
- Para archery is target archery for athletes with a physical or vision impairment. Athletes shoot in four divisions: Para Recurve, Para Compound, W1 (the most impaired) and VI (vision impaired).
- A qualification round of 72 arrows ranks the athletes and sets the knockout bracket.
- Para Recurve, W1 and VI matches use sets of three arrows: the higher set score wins two points, a tie one each, and the first to 6 wins. Para Compound adds up every arrow over five ends.
- VI archers shoot at 30 m with a tactile sight that touches the back of the hand, and a spotter sitting behind them.
How long
Archers get 40 seconds an arrow in qualification, and 20 to 40 seconds in matches depending on the format.
