How the para archery world rankings work

Valid for: World Archery para archery world rankings under the World Ranking Calculation System (v1.0, 1 October 2022) and World Archery Rulebook Book 5: Para Archery (version 12 March 2026), Chapter 32. Official source: worldarchery.sport. Not covered: classification; the LA28 Paralympic quota system. The general method is explained in the archery ranking explainer; this page covers what is different for para archers.

Para archers are ranked by World Archery with the same formula as Olympic archers:

Points for an event = the event's base points × a share for your final place × a multiplier for how old the result is

What is different for para archers:

  • Para events have their own groups. The Paralympic Games and World Para Championships are worth 100 base points; continental para games and championships (including the Asian Para Games) 60; all other para ranking events 40.
  • Only para results count, and a para archer's ranking adds up their best four para results (not seven, as in Olympic archery).
  • There are separate lists for each para category.

Book 5 (Chapter 32) says only that "a Para Archery world ranking list will be maintained"; the method is in the World Ranking Calculation System.

Base points for para events

GroupBase pointsPara events
1100Paralympic Games, World Archery Para Championships
360Continental para games, continental para championships
440All other world ranking para events

There is no group 2 for para archery (group 2 is the Olympic-style World Cup).

Final place and time

The same tables as Olympic archery: 1st 100%, 2nd 85%, 3rd 70%, 4th 60%, 5th 50%, down to 5% for losing in a round of 96 or 128; and results lose value from 12 months (0.75, 0.5, 0.25) and drop out after 24 months.

Merged categories

When small para categories are merged at an event, archers get points for their final place in the merged category. The points are not recalculated for their own category.

Counting

Up to four para results count, for individuals and mixed teams. One result is enough to appear. The lists are published every Monday at 00:00 UTC.

A worked example

Made up to show the arithmetic. An Indian compound women open archer's results:

EventCalculationScore
Asian Para Games, gold, 8 months ago60 × 100% × 160
World Para Championships, quarter-final loss (5th), 14 months ago100 × 50% × 0.7537.5
Para ranking event, 2nd, 3 months ago40 × 85% × 134
Para ranking event, 9th, 18 months ago40 × 35% × 0.57

Total: 60 + 37.5 + 34 + 7 = 138.5.
