How the gymnastics World Cup rankings work

Valid for: the FIG World Cup ranking lists for artistic (apparatus), rhythmic and trampoline gymnastics under the FIG World Cup Rules 2025–2028, and the LA28 Olympic qualification ranking lists built from them. Official source: gymnastics.sport.

Gymnastics has no rolling world ranking like tennis or badminton. Gymnasts are judged routine by routine, and the big decisions (titles, most Olympic places) come from the World Championships.

What the FIG does rank is its World Cup series: each World Cup gives points for the finishing place, and a gymnast's best results in a season (or, for Olympic qualification, over the qualifying series) are added up.

DisciplineWinResults counted for LA28
Artistic (per apparatus)30Best 4 of the 6 Apparatus World Cups in 2028
Rhythmic (all-around)50Best 4 of up to 8 World Cups, March 2026 to June 2027
Trampoline60Best 3 of 6 World Cups, May 2027 to April 2028

Artistic: Apparatus World Cup points

Points go first to the eight finalists by their final place, then to the rest by their qualification place:

PlacePoints
Final: 1st, 2nd, 3rd30, 25, 20
Final: 4th to 8th18, 16, 14, 12, 10
Qualification: 9th to 15th8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2
Qualification: 16th and below1

A gymnast who does not start or finish the final gets points from the qualification place. There is a separate list for each apparatus (six for men, four for women). The yearly winner counts the best four results.

Where the document disagrees with itself. The saved rules are a marked-up draft (version 1.5): the counting results change from three to four in some lines and back in others.

Rhythmic: World Cup points

PlaceIndividualGroup
1 / 2 / 350 / 45 / 4050 / 45 / 40
4 / 5 / 6 / 735 / 30 / 25 / 2035 / 30 / 25 / 20
8 / 9 / 1018 / 16 / 1415 / 10 / 5
11 / 1212 / 104 / 3
13 to 189, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1–

No points if fewer than four countries take part. For LA28, a gymnast or group needs at least four World Cups; gymnasts already qualified at the 2026 World Championships are taken off the list and their points pass to the next eligible gymnast.

Trampoline: World Cup points

PlacePoints
1 to 860, 55, 50, 44, 38, 32, 28, 25
9 to 1522, 21, 20, 19, 18, 17, 16
16 to 3015 down to 1 (one less each place)

For LA28: best three of six World Cups, at most two from 2027; points of gymnasts already qualified are not passed down. Ties go to the lowest sum of placings.

A worked example

Made up to show the arithmetic. A pommel horse specialist at four 2028 Apparatus World Cups finishes 2nd, 5th, 9th in qualification, and 1st: 25 + 16 + 8 + 30 = 79 points.
