How the archery world ranking works

Checked 20 October 2026Valid for: the World Archery world rankings (recurve and compound, individual and team, with para archery), under World Archery's World Ranking Calculation System, version 1.0 of 1 October 2022, still the version on World Archery's document site in October 2026. How many points is a World Cup win worth to an archer?

Eighty, while it is fresh. World Archery gives every ranking event a base value: 100 for the Olympics and World Championships, 80 for a World Cup stage or the World Cup Final, 60 for continental championships and games, 40 for other ranking events. An archer gets a share of that base by their finishing place: all of it for a win, 85 per cent for second, 70 per cent for third, down to 5 per cent for an early defeat.

Then time eats into it. For 12 months a result counts in full. After that it is worth three-quarters, then a half, then a quarter, and two years after the event it is gone.

An archer's ranking adds up their best results: up to four outdoor events, two indoor events and one field event. One result is enough to be on the list.

A new list comes out every Monday.

The one thing to remember: in archery the ranking is a sum of a handful of results that shrink over two years, so an archer who stops competing slides down even without losing.

The formula

Ranking score for an event = group base points × final position percentage × period multiplier

For India this puts the Asian Games and the Asian Championships in group 3 (60 points to the winner), the same as any other continental event.

Points come only to archers who reach the head-to-head matches, where an event has them. In field archery an archer must pass the cut after qualification; indoors, pass the cut or finish in the top 32.

Which results count

CategoryResults counted
Individual (recurve, compound)Up to seven: the best four outdoor, two indoor and one field
Team and mixed teamThe best four outdoor
Para individual and para mixed teamThe best four para events

One valid result is enough to appear on the list. The list is published every Monday at 00:00 UTC.

The lists

Individual: recurve and compound, men and women. Team: recurve and compound, men's, women's and mixed. Para: recurve open and compound open (men and women), W1 men and women, visually impaired 1 and 2/3, plus mixed team lists.

A worked example

Made up to show the arithmetic. A recurve archer's outdoor results:

EventCalculationScore
World Cup stage, won, 3 months ago80 × 100% × 180
World Championships, 5th, 14 months ago100 × 50% × 0.7537.5
Asian Championships, 2nd, 6 months ago60 × 85% × 151
World Cup Final, 4th, 10 months ago80 × 60% × 148
A ranking event, won, 1 month ago40 × 100% × 140

The best four outdoor scores count: 80 + 51 + 48 + 40 = 219. The World Championships result, 37.5 after time, is the one left out.
