How do you deliver a stone in wheelchair curling?

B · Beginner · The game · 2 of 2
Checked 15 October 2026

The chair is still with its wheels on the ice, and no part of the player's body may touch the ice. A stone delivered near the hack starts on the centre line; one delivered nearer the hog line starts between the wheelchair lines. It must be released before the hog line. A violation removes the stone.

How it works

  • Chair: stationary.
  • Wheels: on the ice.
  • Body: off the ice.
  • Near the hack: stone on the centre line.
  • Nearer the hog line: within the wheelchair lines.
  • Wheelchair lines: 457 mm from the centre.
  • Release: before the hog line.
  • In play: at the hog line, not the tee line.

The glossary has the wheelchair delivery, the wheelchair lines, the starting position of the stone, the delivery violation, the stone in play (wheelchair) and the delivery stick.

Tricky cases

A stone stops short of the hog line. Can it be replayed?

Yes. It is not yet in play.

A foot touches the ice during delivery. Result?

Violation; the stone is removed.

Who replaces moved stones?

The non-offending team.

Can the chair roll during delivery?

No. It must be stationary.

Why the rule exists

Fixing the start position stops players angling the stone from wide on the sheet.
