How teams qualify for the World Wheelchair Curling Championship
Checked 20 October 2026Valid for: the World Wheelchair Curling Championship, the World Wheelchair-B Curling Championship and the World Wheelchair Mixed Doubles Curling Championship, under World Curling's Competition Formats and Qualification Criteria (August 2026). Not covered: French Alps 2030 Paralympic qualification (not published); classification.
Wheelchair curling has two tiers, with mixed-gender teams:
| Tier | Teams | Who plays | Who goes up or down |
|---|---|---|---|
| World Wheelchair Curling Championship | 12 | the 8 best from the last championship + 3 or 4 from the B Championship (+ a host place) | bottom 4 go down to the B Championship |
| World Wheelchair-B Curling Championship | open | any member not already in the top tier | top 3 or 4 go up |
The World Wheelchair Mixed Doubles Championship is open to every member: there is no qualifying.
The host place
A host country not already qualified may get a place if it is in the top 16 of the World Association Ranking. That is why the number promoted from the B Championship is "3 or 4": it depends on whether a host place is used.
Format
One group of 12, round robin. The top two go straight to the semi-finals; 3rd to 6th play off (3 v 6, 4 v 5).
