The heat and the score

  1. What makes a high-scoring wave in surfing?Five things on a shortboard: commitment and degree of difficulty, new and progressive manoeuvres, the combination of major manoeuvres and their variety.
  2. What counts as a ride in surfing, and what if the horn goes mid-wave?A ride counts once the surfer plainly has the wave, is moving forward with it, is making a movement to stand and has hands off the board.

Priority and interference

  1. Who has right of way on a wave when there is no priority? The surfer on the inside, meaning nearest the part of the wave that is breaking.
  2. What is an interference in surfing?Hindering the scoring potential of a surfer who has the right to the wave.
