How are points scored in sqay?
B · Beginner · The Loba fight · 2 of 2A face kick with good form, timing and distance scores a Dre, worth 4 points; a chest kick scores a Dha, worth 2. A clean tura strike, pulled back in time, scores a Yaw, worth 1, as does a less correct kick that still works. Two Yaw make a Dha and two Dha a Dre; three Dre win the bout.
How it works
- Dre: face kick, 4 points.
- Dha: chest kick, 2 points.
- Yaw: tura strike, 1 point.
- Yaw targets: head, face, tura arm, ribs.
- Two Yaw: one Dha.
- Two Dha: one Dre.
- Three Dre: bout won.
- Contact: light, not needed.
The glossary has the Dre, the Dha, the Yaw, the controlled contact, the tura and the centre referee (sqay).

Must a strike make contact to score?
No. Contact is limited and not required.
A kick lands as the opponent steps away. Points?
A Yaw, if it was still effective.
Too much contact. Result?
Disqualification, always.
Who signals the points?
The centre referee, calling the scorer.
Why the rule exists
