How park and pipe events work
Shown with halfpipe, slopestyle and big air, for snowboarders and freeskiers.
- Three to seven judges score each run from 0 to 100, on an overall impression: execution, difficulty, amplitude (height), variety and progression.
- In halfpipe and slopestyle each rider has two or more runs, and usually the best one counts.
- In big air each rider gets three jumps and the two best scores are added, but only if the tricks are different.
- Riders qualify through heats to a final, and the highest score in the final wins.
Cross
The other main format is snowboard cross and ski cross: four or six riders race together over jumps and banks, and the first across the line go through.
