How the ski jumping World Cup and world ranking work

Checked 20 October 2026Valid for: Rules for the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup (Men) and (Women), edition 2026/2027, sections 3 and 4.

Ski jumping keeps two lists:

  1. The World Cup for the season. In each individual competition the top 30 score: 100 for a win, 80 for second, 60 for third, down to 1 for 30th. The jumper with the most points at the end of the season wins the overall World Cup; the leader wears the leader's bib.
  2. The FIS World Ranking List, which uses the same points over a rolling window. It decides how many jumpers each country can enter in World Cup events.

Countries also compete for the Nations Cup, which adds up all their jumpers' points and team points.

Men's and women's World Cups use the same points.

Tied jumpers each get the points for that place, and the next place is skipped. A competition counts only if at least eight countries take part.

Ties in the standings: most wins, then most second places and so on; if still level, a draw decides the starting order.

Nations Cup: all individual points of a country's jumpers plus its team points (and its share of mixed team points) over the season.

The World Ranking List and entry quotas

  • Same points as the World Cup (100 for 1st to 1 for 30th).
  • The season is split into five periods. After each period, the oldest period from last season drops out, so the list always covers the five most recent periods. Summer Grand Prix results (two periods) also count for the countries' quotas.
  • The top 45 on the allocation list (at most five per country), the top 3 of the Continental Cup period and the top 3 at the Junior World Championships earn places for their countries. Extra places are added by event type, up to seven per country.
  • A country that scored at least one World Cup point last season or this season gets a basic quota (two jumpers at men-only events, one at joint events).

A worked example

Made up to show the arithmetic. Over a season a jumper finishes 4th (50), 12th (22), 25th (6) and 31st (0) in four individual competitions, and their country's team finishes 6th in a team event (150). Their World Cup total: 50 + 22 + 6 = 78. Their country's Nations Cup gets their 78 plus the team's 150, plus the points of its other jumpers.
