Targets and rounds

  1. What does a trap range look like, and how do the targets fly?A trap range has a pit in the ground holding 15 target-throwing machines in five groups of three.

  1. What are the safety rules on a shotgun range?A shotgun must be carried open and empty at all times off the shooting station.
  2. What guns and ammunition are allowed in trap?Any smoothbore shotgun of 12 gauge or smaller may be used, except semi-automatics and pump actions.
  3. What do shotgun shooters have to wear?Athletes must wear a shooting vest or jacket with side pockets for cartridges, sports clothing and closed shoes.
