Is there video review in rink hockey?

Checked 14 October 2026

From 2027, where a television system is set up, the referees may review goal-line calls and must review brawls on video. Each team may also ask, with a green card within 10 seconds, for one review per half of a serious foul, a penalty, a direct free hit or a late team foul. Only clear, conclusive images change a decision.

How it works

  • Referees' reviews: goal-line calls; brawls, which must be reviewed.
  • Team requests: one per half, a second if the first succeeds.
  • Extra time: one request per team.
  • How: a green card to the assistant referee within 10 seconds.
  • What can be reviewed: serious fouls, penalties, direct free hits, late team fouls.
  • Window: the last 30 seconds before the request.
  • Standard: clear and conclusive images; both main referees must agree.
  • Request lost: if the decision is not changed.

The glossary has the video review system, the main referees, the penalty (rink hockey), the direct free hit, the team foul and the goal (rink hockey).

Tricky cases

Can a team ask to review how a penalty was taken?

No. The execution of a penalty or direct free hit cannot be reviewed.

A team asks after a timeout. Is it accepted?

No. Requests cannot be made during or after a timeout or an injury stoppage.

The images are unclear. What happens?

The original decision stands, and the request counts as used.

Which team fouls can be reviewed?

Only those giving a direct free hit in the last 5 minutes or in extra time.

Why the rule exists

Replays fix clear errors in a game too fast for the eye. Limits on requests stop reviews breaking up play.
