How are points awarded in rink hockey?

Checked 14 October 2026

A win earns three points, a draw one and a defeat none. Teams level on points are split by their games against each other, then goal difference, then the ratio of goals scored to conceded. A team not ready 15 minutes after the start time loses 10-0; one that walks off is out of the event.

How it works

  • Win: 3 points; draw: 1; defeat: 0.
  • No-show: 0 points and a 10-0 defeat.
  • Ties on points: head-to-head points, then goal difference, then goal ratio.
  • Still tied: results across the whole event, then World Skate decides.
  • Late team: 15 minutes' grace at the start, 5 after the break.
  • Abandonment: the team is out of the competition.
  • Administrative protest: delegate and captain, before the match.
  • Technical protest: captain to the referees, at a stoppage or straight after.

The glossary has the points (rink hockey), the no-show, the protest (rink hockey), the World Skate, the main referees and the team (rink hockey).

Tricky cases

The rink lights fail before the match. Is it a no-show?

No. The referees allow time to fix it, or move the match for force majeure.

Does a protest need anything beyond telling the referees?

Yes. It must be confirmed later by official letter with the fee.

Who decides when every tie-break is level?

World Skate's Rink Hockey Technical Commission, after talking to the teams.

A team cannot come back on after half-time. What then?

After 5 minutes the match ends as abandoned.

Why the rule exists

Head-to-head first rewards the team that won the direct meeting. A heavy no-show score stops teams avoiding a match for advantage.
