How do you lose a rally in racquetball?
B · Beginner · Rallies and conduct · 4 of 4Checked 15 October 2026
A return is hit on the fly or after one bounce, with the racquet head only. It must reach the front wall before the floor, directly or off other walls and the ceiling. Two bounces, missing the front wall or going out on the fly lose the rally. A ball that bounces in and leaves the court is replayed.
How it works
- When: fly or one bounce.
- With: racquet head.
- Hands: one or two; no switching.
- Target: front wall first.
- Via: walls, ceiling.
- Two bounces: lost.
- Out without bouncing: lost.
- Bounced then out: replay.
The glossary has the legal return, the failure to return, the rally, the back wall shot, the out-of-court ball and the illegal hit.
