How to qualify in Pickleball
How players qualify for the Pickleball World Cup
Checked 20 October 2026Valid for: the Pickleball World Cup 2026 (Da Nang, Vietnam, 30 August to 6 September 2026), sanctioned by the Global Pickleball Federation, and India's selection for it, from news reports (secondary). The event's own entry rules are not saved. Not covered: the separate Pickleball World Championships in the United States (run through open qualifier events, with a different organiser); professional tours.
Pickleball has no single world governing body yet, so there is more than one event called a world championship. The one played by national teams is the Pickleball World Cup:
- Countries enter national teams, chosen by their own federation. There is no world qualifying round.
- Teams play in age divisions (open, seniors, masters, juniors and kids), and group draws come first.
- 2026 was the third edition: 156 national teams from 81 countries and territories, more than 5,000 players in all (including club and amateur events alongside).
How India picks its team
The Indian Pickleball Association (IPA), recognised by the Sports Ministry as the national federation, picks India's team:
| Category | How chosen |
|---|---|
| Open, 50+, 60+ | IPA Selection Committee, on results at the IPA National Championships and sanctioned events up to the Picklebay Zonals (the last qualifying event), plus world standings, fitness and form; wild cards possible |
| Juniors (U14, U18) | Trials in Ahmedabad, 12 to 14 June 2026, with the year's results |
Selected players sign a performance agreement with the IPA.
- At the previous World Cup, in the United States (India's first), India won 25 medals (8 gold, 8 silver, 9 bronze) and finished 7th on the medal table, the only Asian country in the top ten.
- The Selection Committee covers singles, doubles and mixed doubles.
