How a paracanoe race works
- Paracanoe is canoe racing for athletes with an eligible impairment. Sprints are 200 m on a straight course.
- There are two boats: the kayak (K1) and the va'a (V1), an outrigger canoe with a float on one side.
- Each boat has three classes, KL1 to KL3 and VL1 to VL3, set by trunk and leg function. KL1 is the most impaired.
- With more boats than lanes, the event runs in heats and finals. The first boat over the line wins.
