General terms

Paracanoe

The ICF's canoeing for athletes with an eligible impairment. Paracanoe sprint is raced over 200 m in kayaks and va'a, in a straight, unobstructed course, in the shortest time. Athletes race in sport classes set by classification.

K1 and V1

The two official paracanoe boats: the kayak single (K1) and the va'a single (V1). Class codes combine the boat with a class, such as KL1 for a kayak or VL1 for a va'a.

Boats and equipment

Va'a

An outrigger canoe: a single hull with a single float (ama) joined by two spreaders (iato) separated by at least one seat. It is at most 7.30 m and at least 13 kg including ama and iato, either sit-in or sit-on-top. Rudders, skegs and projecting keels are not allowed.
