How many paddlers race a paracanoe final?
I · Intermediate · Racing · 2 of 2A race needs at least three boats. With more boats than lanes, equal heats are drawn by lot. A B final is held only with more than 18 boats and a C final only with more than 36. At world championships an athlete in a more impaired class may not race up into a less impaired one, such as KL1 into KL2.

Tricky cases
Only two boats enter. Is the race held?
No. At least three are needed.
Fifteen boats enter. Is there a B final?
No. That needs more than 18.
Can a KL2 paddler race KL3 at worlds?
No.
How are heats chosen?
By lot.
Why the rule exists
A three-boat minimum makes a real race. Barring racing up keeps each class's medals within it.
