How a match works, in a minute
How a para triathlon works
- Para triathlon is a swim, a bike ride and a run, in that order, for athletes with an eligible impairment.
- There are three groups of classes: wheelchair users (PTWC), standing athletes (PTS) and vision impaired athletes (PTVI).
- Wheelchair athletes ride a handcycle and run in a racing wheelchair. Vision-impaired athletes race with a guide, tethered in the swim and on a tandem bike.
- Where classes share a medal event, less impaired classes have a set time added to their finish, so the first across the line may not win.
How long
Major events are sprint distance, with a two-hour limit.
