How can a para taekwondo bout be won?

B · Beginner · The contest · 4 of 4
Checked 14 October 2026

Bouts are won by final score, a 20-point gap after round two or in round three, golden points, superiority, the referee stopping the contest, withdrawal, disqualification or a punitive declaration. Each coach has one video replay request per bout, covering one action in the last five seconds; the jury decides in 30 seconds. Without replay, a team may protest within ten minutes.

How it works

  • PTF: final score.
  • PTG: a 20-point gap.
  • GDP and SUP: golden points, superiority.
  • RSC: referee stops the contest.
  • WDR: withdrawal, including a towel.
  • DQB: unsportsmanlike, all results removed.
  • Replay: one per coach, kept if right.
  • Protest: ten minutes, US$200, no replay.

The glossary has the contest results (para taekwondo), the point gap, the instant video replay (para taekwondo), the review jury, the protest without video replay and the pretending injury.

Tricky cases

Does the point gap apply in senior finals?

No, not in semi-finals and finals.

Can a coach challenge a PSS kick?

No.

A fighter fakes injury. Result?

Gam-jeom, or disqualification if the doctor is convinced.

Can a protest change a judgement of fact?

No.

Why the rule exists

A point gap ends one-sided bouts early. One replay each limits stoppages while still fixing clear errors.
