Which track events are in para-cycling?
I · Intermediate · Racing · 6 of 6Only C and B riders race on the track. The kilometre or 500 m time trial and the individual pursuit are held for each C class and for tandems, from starting blocks with a 15-second countdown. Pursuit qualifiers are paired by similar impairment. The road time trial is for every class, with up to three riders a nation per class at worlds.
How it works
- Track: C and B classes only.
- Starting blocks: pursuit, kilo, 500 m, first team sprint rider.
- Countdown: 15 seconds.
- Kilo or 500 m: each C class and tandems.
- Pursuit: each C class and tandems.
- Pairing: similar impairments in qualifying.
- Factored finals: ridden alone unless same class.
- Road time trial: three riders per nation per class at worlds.
The glossary has the track events (para-cycling), the individual time trial (para-cycling), the individual pursuit (para-cycling), the kilometre and 500 m time trial, the C1 to C5 and the factored event.
Tricky cases
Do pursuit finalists of different classes race head to head?
No. With a factor, they ride alone.
Can a tricyclist ride the kilo?
No.
Must the time trial course be closed?
It should be, at least to oncoming traffic.
Is there an omnium?
Yes, the Para Omnium of four events.
Why the rule exists
Starting blocks give every rider the same start whatever their balance. Pairing similar impairments stops one rider pacing off another.
