What is semi-contact Muay Thai?
A · Advanced · Fouls and safety · 5 of 5Muaythai Technical, the semi-contact discipline added in 2026, uses light, controlled strikes. Rounds are won on clean execution, not force, and a full-power strike is a foul. If a strike injures or knocks down an opponent who cannot go on after a minute's rest, the striker is disqualified; a knockout disqualifies at once.
How it works
- Contact: light and controlled.
- Scoring: effective light-contact technique, not force.
- Excessive force: a foul.
- Injury or knockdown: 1-minute rest; if the athlete cannot go on, the striker is disqualified.
- Knockout: the striker is disqualified at once.
- Leaving the area on purpose: caution, then two warnings, then disqualification.
- Forced out: no penalty.
- Venue: a ring or a technical contest area.
The glossary has the Muaythai Technical, the Muaythai Combat, the Muaythai skill, the caution, the warning (Muay Thai) and the disqualification (Muay Thai).
