How a match works, in a minute
How a Formula 1 weekend works
Shown with Formula 1.
- A standard weekend has three practice sessions, then qualifying to set the starting grid. The fastest qualifier starts first, on pole.
- The race starts when five red lights go out. Moving before they go out is a false start.
- In a dry race each driver must use at least two different types of dry tyre, so a pit stop is normally needed.
- The top ten score points, from 25 for the winner down to 1 for tenth. The drivers' title goes to the most points over the season.
How long
A race is the fewest complete laps covering more than 305 km. If two hours pass first, the leader gets the flag at the end of the next lap.
