How are mallakhamb winners decided?
I · Intermediate · Apparatus and competitions · 2 of 4Competition I decides the team title: a compulsory set where one exists, then an optional set for those averaging half marks. The best six on each apparatus, at most two a team, go to Competition III, adding half their earlier marks to one more set. National events end with a Best Mallakhamb Player final on the rope.
How it works
- Competition IA: compulsory set.
- Competition IB: optional set.
- To reach IB: 50 per cent in IA.
- Team title: from Competition I.
- Competition III: best six per apparatus.
- Per team: two at most.
- III score: half of I plus III.
- Best player: one optional set on the rope.
The glossary has the team championship, the compulsory and optional competitions, the apparatus championship, the Best Mallakhamb Player, the ties and the optional set.
Tricky cases
Two tie for first. Who is second?
No one. Both are first and the next is third.
Three from one team qualify for Competition III. Result?
Only two go; ties are settled on the base score, then on all the judges' points added.
The Best Mallakhamb Player final cannot be held. Result?
The winner of the under 19 group gets the title.
Does the best-player score count for anything else?
No. It is a separate competition.
Why the rule exists
Carrying half the earlier marks into the final rewards a full competition, not one good set.
