How to qualify in Lawn bowls

How bowlers qualify for the World Bowls Championship

Checked 20 October 2026Valid for: the 2027 World Bowls Championship (outdoor, Royal Leamington Spa, England, 20 July to 1 August 2027), under World Bowls' announcements of March and June 2026. Not covered: the number of places each region gets (only the Americas' is published); the indoor championships; the World Bowls ranking.

The World Bowls Championship is open in principle to every member nation, but the 2027 edition is limited to 24 teams or players in each discipline (singles, pairs, triples and fours, for men and for women; there are para events too):

  • 12 places go to the top 12 in that discipline at the 2023 World Championships;
  • 12 are shared among the regions, in proportion to how many member nations each has, and decided at regional qualifiers in 2026.

For India, the regional qualifier was the Asia Lawn Bowls Championship in New Delhi, in April 2026, which India hosted. India's Putul Sonowal went to the 2026 Commonwealth Games described as the Asian champion.
