How a match works, in a minute
How a lacrosse sixes game works
- Sixes is the short, fast form of lacrosse chosen for the Olympic Games. Two teams of six, a goalkeeper and five field players, throw a small rubber ball into the other team's goal using sticks with a netted head.
- Each quarter starts with a draw at the centre, two players contesting the ball between their sticks. After a goal, the beaten goalkeeper restarts play instead.
- A team has 30 seconds from gaining the ball to shoot on goal, or the ball goes to the other team.
- Each goal counts one, and the team with more goals wins. A fouling player sits out in the penalty area while the team plays a player short.
How long
Four quarters of eight minutes. A level score goes to a three-minute overtime period.
