Lobby
The strip around the field. The umpires move in it, and defenders who are out return to their seats through it.
Players and roles
Chasing and movement
Shoulder line
An imaginary line through the centre of the attacker's shoulders. Turning it through more than a right angle from the direction taken is a foul.
Recede
An attacker receding means touching ground already covered while going in a direction, which is not allowed. It is judged by the rear foot.
Pole dive
A tag made while touching the post. Dragging the rear leg or turning the shoulder line more than a right angle is not a foul then, but touching or crossing the central lane still is.
Also called: touching at post

Fouls and discipline
Advantage rule
A foul that gives the chasing side no advantage and the defenders no disadvantage is not called.
Obstruction by a chaser
A seated chaser must sit so as not to obstruct defenders. If a defender is out because of it, the defender is not declared out. Moving a part of the body towards a nearby runner is a foul.
Misbehaviour
Deliberate pushing, catching, pulling, hitting, or conduct against the officials or opponents. The Referee penalises by a warning, a yellow card or a red card.

Match format
Minimum chase
The tie-breaker when scores are level after an extra inning. Each team chases in a turn that the Referee stops as soon as the first point is scored, timing it. The team that scored faster wins.
Follow-on
After the first inning, a team that is far enough ahead may make the other team chase again straight away. The size of the lead that triggers it depends on the version of the rules. If followed, the result is a win by an inning.

Officials
Timekeeper
The official who starts a turn with a long whistle followed by a short one, ends it with a long whistle, and calls out each minute by raising an arm.
Scorer
Two scorers keep the record. Scorer-1 keeps the players' names, numbers, performances and the result. Scorer-2 records the order of defenders and who is out, and handles substitutions.
