What is an all out in kabaddi?
B · Beginner · Raiding and defending · 9 of 9An all out is scored when one team has put every player of the other team out and none of them can be revived. It is worth two extra points on top of the points from that raid. Play then carries on, and the team that was all out returns to its half at full strength.
How it works
- When it happens: the whole opposing team is out and nobody is entitled to be revived.
- The points: "Two extra points for ALL OUT will be awarded in addition to the points scored in the raid."
- Back in: all the out players re-enter their half within 15 seconds.
- Slow to return: one technical point to the opponents for every 15 seconds of delay.
- One minute: a team that has not entered within a minute is scratched, and the match is awarded to the opponents.
- Declaring: with one or two players left, a captain may declare them out to bring the full team back. The opponents score a point for each of those players plus the two extra points.
The glossary has the all out, the revival, the out player, the technical point, the sitting block and the raid.
Tricky cases
The last defender is touched and the raider gets home. How many points is that raid worth?
Three. One for the defender put out, and two extra for the all out.
A team has one player left, who goes to raid and is caught. Is that an all out?
Yes. Every player of the team is now out and none can be revived. The defence scores one point for the catch and two for the all out.
A captain with two players left declares them out. What does it cost?
Four points: one for each of the two players, and two for the all out. The whole team then comes back.
The team that was all out takes 20 seconds to come back on. Is there a penalty?
Yes. One technical point to the opponents, and another for each further 15 seconds.
Why the rule exists
The two points reward a team for finishing the job, and the reset gives the beaten team a fresh start instead of leaving it with nobody to play. The choice to declare exists because one or two players alone can neither defend nor expect to raid their way back.
