What attacks are performed in ju-jitsu duo?
B · Beginner · The event · 2 of 3There are twelve set attacks in three series of four. Series A is grips, embraces and neck locks. Series B is punches and kicks. Series C is attacks with a knife or a stick. Each attack can be made right-handed or left-handed, and the pair chooses the defence and who attacks.
How it works
- A1: a grip on the arm, one hand on the wrist and the other on the forearm.
- A2: a grip on the lapel of the jacket.
- A3: an attack on the neck from the front, behind or side, to strangle.
- A4: an embrace from the front or behind, a choke from behind or an arm round the neck from the side or front.
- B1: a straight punch to the head or body.
- B2: a hook to the chin or side of the head.
- B3: a front kick to the solar plexus or stomach.
- B4: a roundhouse kick to the head or body.
- C1 and C2: knife attacks from above to the base of the neck, and in an arc to the side.
- C3: a knife attack to the stomach.
- C4: stick attacks from above to the head, or from the side.
- Weapons: soft or rubber. The stick is 50 to 70 cm long.
- Children: series C is not performed by the under-10 group and younger.
The glossary has the series A, B and C, the pre-attack, the tori and uke, the duo equipment, the wrong attack and the duo.
Tricky cases
Does a pair have to defend with a set technique?
No. The defence, the roles and the position of the feet are entirely the pair's choice.
Can the defender start moving before the attack?
No. The defender must react to the attack. Moving before it starts is marked down.
Is a real knife used?
No. Weapons in the presentation must be made of soft material or rubber.
Do children perform all twelve attacks?
No. Younger age groups perform fewer, and the under-10s perform only A1 and A2 in each round of qualification.
Why the rule exists
A fixed list means every pair is judged on the same problems, so the marks compare like with like. The three series run from the common to the dangerous: being grabbed, being hit and being attacked with a weapon.
