How a match works, in a minute
How a handball match works
- Two teams of seven, one of them a goalkeeper, pass and throw the ball by hand. Substitutes can come on at any time.
- A player with the ball may take at most three steps and hold it for at most three seconds, then must pass, shoot or bounce it.
- The goal area inside the 6-metre line belongs to the goalkeeper alone. Players may jump from outside it and shoot in the air.
- A goal is scored when the whole ball crosses the goal line. The team with more goals wins.
Punishments
A foul that destroys a clear chance gives a 7-metre throw, one attacker against the goalkeeper. A two-minute suspension leaves the team one player short for two minutes.
How long
Two halves of 30 minutes.
