How is PUBG scored in esports?

B · Beginner · The basics · 3 of 3
Checked 14 October 2026

In PUBG each match puts 16 teams of four on one map, and teams score one point per kill plus placement points: 10 for first, 6 for second, then 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and 1 down to eighth. Totals over many matches set the standings. In the finals a team must reach a match-point mark and then win a match.

How it works

  • Teams: 16 a match, four players each, 64 players.
  • Kill points: one per opponent eliminated.
  • Placement points: 10, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 1 for first to eighth.
  • Match points: kills plus placement.
  • Standings: total over all matches.
  • Ties: more placement points, then the latest match.
  • SMASH rule: after day two, reach the leader's total plus 10, then win a match.
  • No SMASH winner: the points leader after 18 matches wins.

The glossary has the battle royale, the kill points, the placement points, the match points (PUBG), the SMASH rule and the lobby.

Tricky cases

A team wins with 10 kills. How many points?

20: 10 for kills and 10 for first place.

A team finishes ninth. Placement points?

None.

Can a team clinch the title in the same match it reaches the mark?

No. It must win another match.

Two teams tie on points. Who is ahead?

The one with more placement points.

Why the rule exists

Combining kills and placement rewards both aggression and survival. The SMASH rule makes a team prove itself with a win, not only by gathering points.
