How does a CP football penalty shootout work?

I · Intermediate · Competition and eligibility · 4 of 5
Checked 15 October 2026

When a knockout match is level, two periods of 10 minutes are played, 8 for women, with no break between them. If still level, each team takes three kicks, stopping early once one cannot be caught, then pairs of kicks until one leads. A team with more players must reduce to the opponents' number, keeping its FT1.

How it works

  • Extra time: two of 10 minutes.
  • Women: two of 8.
  • Rest: five minutes before only.
  • Shootout: three kicks each.
  • Then: one pair at a time.
  • Numbers: reduced to match.
  • Below four players: not abandoned.
  • FT1: kept when numbers are cut.

The glossary has the extra time, the penalty shootout, the extra time substitutions, the FT1, FT2 and FT3, the team size and the goal area and penalty area.
