How a match works, in a minute
How a basketball game works
- Two teams of five try to put the ball through the other team's basket.
- A basket from inside the three-point line is worth 2 points, one from outside it 3, and a free throw 1.
- A team with the ball has 24 seconds to take a shot: the shot clock.
- A game is four quarters of 10 minutes. The team with more points at the end wins. A tie goes to overtime periods of 5 minutes until one team is ahead.
How long
40 minutes on a clock that stops, with 2-minute breaks after the first and third quarters and a 15-minute half-time, so a game takes much longer on the wall clock.
3x3
Three a side at one basket: one period of 10 minutes, or the first to 21 points.
