More about this tournament
Paris 1900
The only Olympic cricket match was played on 19 and 20 August 1900 at the Vélodrome Municipal de Vincennes in Paris. Three matches had been planned between France and visiting teams, but the Belgian and Dutch sides did not come, so one match was played.
| Medal | Team | Represented by |
|---|---|---|
| Gold | Great Britain | Devon and Somerset Wanderers, a touring club side |
| Silver | France | A team of the Union des Sociétés Françaises de Sports Athlétiques, mostly English players living in Paris |
Each side played 12, by agreement on the day. Great Britain made 117 and 145 for 5 declared; France made 78 and then 26 (185 were needed and the margin was 158 runs), with five minutes left. Montagu Toller took 7 wickets for 9 runs in France's second innings.
Cricket had also been on the provisional programme of Athens 1896 but was not held, for lack of entries.
Los Angeles 2028
The ICC and the IOC confirmed the qualification route on 29 June 2026:
- Six teams in each event. Africa, Asia, Europe and Oceania are each guaranteed a place.
- Five places come from existing ICC events and the ICC T20I rankings; the sixth from a new ICC Olympics Qualifier in 2027, with eight teams in each event.
- The United States qualifies as host if it is in the top 15 of the relevant ICC T20I rankings at any time from 30 June to 31 December 2026; if not, that place goes to the next-ranked team.
- The West Indies are not an Olympic nation. If they are among the eight highest-ranked teams not yet qualified on 31 December 2026, a Caribbean Qualifier will decide which nation goes to the Olympics Qualifier.
- Teams have squads of 15 and play in two groups of three, then two more matches against the other group; the top two play for gold and the next two for bronze. There are 28 matches in all.
| Event | Qualified so far | How |
|---|---|---|
| Women | Australia, Great Britain (through England), India, South Africa | Best-placed team of Oceania, Europe, Asia and Africa at the 2026 Women's T20 World Cup |
| Men | none yet | Best-ranked team of each of the four continents on 31 December 2026 |
India's women qualified as Asia's best team, though their T20 World Cup ended "earlier than hoped": in the first round.
