How big is a sepak takraw court, and how high is the net?

Officials' detail · The game · 1 of 1
Checked 14 October 2026

The court is 13.4 metres by 6.1 metres, the same as a badminton doubles court. The net is 1.52 metres high at the centre for men and 1.42 metres for women. The ball is a hollow sphere woven from synthetic fibre, about 42 cm round and weighing 170 to 180 grams for men.

How it works

  • Court: 13.4 m by 6.1 m, with at least 8 m of clear height.
  • Lines: no more than 4 cm wide, drawn inwards, so they are part of the court.
  • Centre line: 2 cm wide, under the net.
  • Quarter circles: radius 0.9 m, at each end of the centre line, for the two inside players at service.
  • Service circle: radius 0.3 m, with its centre 2.45 m from the back line and 3.05 m from each side line.
  • Free zone: 3 m clear on every side.
  • Net height: 1.52 m at the centre and 1.55 m at the posts for men. For women, 1.42 m and 1.45 m.
  • Net: 0.7 m deep, with a 5 cm tape at top and bottom.
  • Ball: one woven layer of synthetic fibre, with 12 holes and 20 intersections.
  • Ball size and weight: 41 to 43 cm round and 170 to 180 g for men. 42 to 44 cm and 150 to 160 g for women.

The glossary has the court, the net, the ball, the centre line, the quarter circle and the service circle.

Tricky cases

A ball lands on the back line. In or out?

In. The lines are drawn inwards from the edge of the court measurements, so they are part of the court.

Is the women's ball smaller than the men's?

No. It is slightly larger round, at 42 to 44 cm, and lighter, at 150 to 160 g.

Can a ball with a rubber coating be used?

Yes, if the federation has approved it. The covering may be of synthetic rubber or a soft durable material "to soften the impact of the ball on the player's body".

The ball hits the ceiling and drops back into play. Does the rally continue?

No. The ball touching the roof, a wall or any object other than the net is a fault.

Why the rule exists

The net stands at about chest height so that a player can get a foot above it. That is what makes the spike possible. The ball is light and springy, so it flies fast off a kick without hurting a bare shin or forehead, and the women's ball is lighter still.
