Checked 14 October 2026

In round-robin play a regulation win earns three points, an overtime or shootout win two and an overtime or shootout loss one; a regulation loss earns none and a forfeit costs three. Two tied teams are split by their game against each other. A team that cannot put four skaters and a goalkeeper on the floor forfeits.

How it works

  • Regulation win: 3 points.
  • Overtime or shootout win: 2.
  • Overtime or shootout loss: 1.
  • Regulation loss: 0; forfeit: minus 3.
  • Two teams tied: head-to-head result.
  • Three or more tied: wins, goal difference between them, overall goal difference, goals against, goals for.
  • Forfeit: short of four skaters and a goalkeeper, at the start or during the game.
  • Refusing to play: a warning and a bench minor, then a forfeit.

The glossary has the points (inline hockey), the forfeiture, the overtime (inline hockey), the shootout (inline hockey), the team (inline hockey) and the referees (inline hockey).

Tricky cases

Penalties leave a team without enough players. What happens?

The game is forfeited.

A captain tells the tournament director in writing the team cannot play. Must the opponent turn up?

No. They are awarded the win without playing.

Three teams tie and one is split off. How are the other two sorted?

They go back to the two-team rule: head-to-head.

Is the goals-against rule before goals for?

Yes. Fewer goals against comes first.

Why the rule exists

Splitting points in overtime rewards a team that reached it. A minus-three forfeit stops teams skipping games.
